Richard earned his BFA at the Corcoran College of Art + Design, Washington, D.C., his MFA in Visual Studies and is a MA Critical Studies Candidate (2020) at the Pacific Northwest College of Art in Portland, OR. A self-trained painter, Richard went on to explore collage and assemblage and in the past years has been combining all three practices. His explorations of the 'gap' between normative and non-normative thinking, stemming with his personal struggles as a high-functioning autistic, informs his most current work and projects: the narrative of understanding the differences, or two sides, without the ability to see both at the same time. Understanding the fragility of this idea, Richard works with non-normative materials, most of which are found and sometimes delicate.
Richard’s home and studio, Skyland, are located in South Bend, Washington on the Willapa River
