Richard earned his BFA at the Corcoran College of Art + Design, Washington, D.C., MFA in Visual Studies and is a MA Critical Studies Candidate (2019) at the Pacific Northwest College of Art in Portland, OR. A self-trained painter, Richard went on to explore collage and assemblage and in the past few years has been combining all three practices. His explorations of the 'gap' between normative and non-normative thinking, stemming with his personal struggles with Asperger's, informs his most current work and projects: the narrative of understanding the differences, or two sides, without the ability to see both at the same time. Understanding the fragility of this idea, Richard works with non-normative materials, most of which are found and sometimes delicate.
Richard’s home and studio are located in South Bend, Washington on the Willapa River.
